Environmental Policy

Granite Le Pelley's environmental policy is split into the following sections:

Sustainability

  • Reduce the use of all raw materials, energy and supplies
  • Use of renewable systems and materials
  • Procure materials from sustainable sources

Waste management

  • Reduce waste arising from our activities
  • Select low waste materials and processes
  • Avoid the over ordering of materials and work to systematically improving yields of materials
  • Eliminate excess packaging
  • Develop a comprehensive project waste management plan
  • Segregate waste for on-site and off-site re-use or recycling where economically viable
  • Use pre-fabricated techniques to reduce waste
  • Encourage waste management and recycling

Environment

  • Comply with the requirements of environmental legislation and approved codes of practice
  • Aim to improve environmental performance
  • Encourage the principles of waste management and recycling
  • Procure materials from sustainable&nbspsources
  • Work with designers and supply chain partners to use standard production timber sections for joinery to reduce unnecessary waste
  • Reduce the transportation miles of materials deliveries
  • Source local materials and skills to reduce transportation miles where practicable
  • Plan construction activities to reduce dust and nuisance to reduce cleaning for example
  • Reduce pollution and emissions arising from our activities

Community

  • Be a good corporate citizen in the environment we work and live in
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders with transparency in areas we build i.e. newsletters, leaflet drops, etc
  • Appoint a community liaison officer to manage our engagement with stakeholders
  • Invest in the community i.e. sponsorship of the Community Awards at the Business Enterprise Awards, donations to charitable trusts i.e. the Golden Jubilee Needle at Albert Pier
  • Have a dedicated training programme to encourage the recruitment of local people
  • Encourage our sites to register with the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) following the success of our participation at the General Hospital contract
  • Liaise with the local community
  • Participate in discussions about environmental issues 

Health & Safety

  • Regularly update health and safety management systems to ensure compliance with current legislation and best practice
  • Maintain a regular and robust training programme
  • Work towards a zero accident culture on site

Supply chain

  • Improve waste management
  • Reduce transportation miles
  • Encourage similar environmental standards from all suppliers and contractors
  • Assist customers and clients to use products and services in an environmentally-sensitive way
  • Work with designers and supply chain partners to use standard production timber sections for joinery to reduce unnecessary waste
  • Reduce the transportation miles of materials deliveries
  • Source local materials and skills to reduce transportation miles where practicable

Staff

  • Effective communications strategy to ensure the views of the board are upheld and demonstrated across the company
  • Ensure all staff benefit from training and development to improve procurement, health and safety, waste management etc
  • Improve our energy consumption both on site and in the office by using energy efficient appliances and undertaking energy audits every 12 months to ensure plant and equipment are running efficiently
  • Raise awareness, encourage participation and train employees in environmental matters
